Registering as an iPhone Dev - individual vs company

Hi all,

Just wondering if there's anyone with experience who can answer this question.

I'm a sole trader in Ireland with the relevant tax registration. I'm reserving a business name through the CRO this week. I'd like to reg with apple as a developer but don't know whether to go for "individual" or "company".

Ideally I want to use my company name as the "publisher" of any apps I develop. I don't, however, want to have to jump through the various hoops required to get a registered limited/unlimited company created.

Has anyone managed to register with anything other than their personal name as "publisher"? If so, how is this done?

Thanks,

John.

Hi John,

AFAIK, there's no reason to go with the company option when registering with Apple. Go with the individual signup - you still will get a chance to specify the 'publisher name'. That's the route I went (and to be honest, I don't remember exactly where you get to enter it but it definitely works).

Awesome, thanks for that! I'll got through the process and post here for future reference.
When you upload your first ap, you get one change, and one chance only, to specify what you want to use for your publisher name. Once you set it the first time you d'nt get asked it again. If you want to change it you have to send pleading emails to the legal department. (been there with a client who typed in random crap for the craic)
Woah... thanks for the reply Damian - it's likely I could easily have fallen into the same trap, for the craic!
John, if you decide to change your profile from individual to a company later down the line, it is fairly painless.

I did it myself a few months ago and all I had to do was send Apple the cert. of incorporation and it was done in a few days.
Thanks Finbarr - I think I'm all set up, have yet to submit first app but the advice received here will be very helpful.
