Hi Guys,
I'm interested in incorporating some means to capture App usage in my next app. I've read about "Flurry Analytics", anyone use this? or do you have an alternative suggestion?
All the Best,
-Ken.

I've not tried Flurry in any of my apps, but I do use Localytics which is free for their Community plan, for any number of apps.
Very easy to incorporate into an app, and gives lots of information about your app usage.

Cheers,
Dave

Just another question:
Is there any legal obligation relating to harvesting usage data from a personal device? Do you have to inform the user of your intentions?

The Developer Agreement says:
3.3.9 You and Your Applications may not collect user or device data without prior user consent, and then only to provide a service or function that is directly relevant to the use of the Application, or to serve advertising. You may not use analytics software in Your Application to collect and send device data to a third party.
I queried this with Localytics and they said:
"There is room for interpretation, but similar language has been in Apple's Developer Agreement since April 2010. The new language is actually a less forceful than the previous version, which was also less forceful than the April version.
That said, no app has been rejected for using Localytics, and many new apps and upgrades have been released for the iPhone and iPad since April. "
I have 3 apps on the app store that use Localytics, I don't inform the user that it's there, although maybe I should.
I'd be interested to know what other developers do in this situation.
Cheers,
Dave

Regarding the legality, they seem to be ok. Steve takes a dim view of these analytics services but surprisingly they haven't banned them, yet.
