Cocoaheads Ireland and Northern Ireland

Right,

I really think this issue needs to be addressed, and am surprised that more people have not raised it before. I can't remember exactly when Apps.ie was launched, but it's been a while. Now, as a website designed with the purpose of promoting Irish made apps, I'm baffled to see that the featured app has not changed since day 1.

There have been multiple efforts made to set up a committee to decide on the "Featured App", but as yet, nothing seems to have changed. I also believe that efforts have been made by some to change the featured app, but still, it remains the same(game).

At this point, I would actually suggest the app being chosen at random on a weekly/daily basis, as the system in place does not seem to be working.

Apps.ie is a great opportunity for Irish based mobile developers to showcase their talents, but at the moment, the lack of diversity and variety on the home page makes it seem very less than professional, and is not at all taking advantage of the initial wonderful work done in getting the site off the ground.

The "committee" approach is not working. The Featured App is possibly the most important part of the site and is being completely neglected. Let's make a decision and start using Apps.ie for the purpose it was set up.

Sounds great Darran

Just wanted to run something past you all. At the moment I just don't have the time to update apps.ie with any new functionality. A few of you are up for learning some Modx and helping out, which is awesome. I do agree with the sentiment in this thread though. The front page is terribly stale.

Here's an opportunity. Right now O2 are doing a promotion for iPhone in conjunction with apps.ie.

There is a different app featured each week for 10 weeks. I can easily make this also the featured app on the apps.ie homepage to at least get some fresh apps in there rather quickly. I would need to ok this with the folks in O2, but I'm sure it would be cool. At least then we have fresh select apps on the homepage each week.

If you guys are cool with this, I can go ahead with it.
O2 are doing a promotion in conjunction with apps.ie? News to me. How did I miss this? Who picked the 10 apps?

Yeah that promotion flew under my radar . I thought we weren't going to be "tied" to any one network provider also?

That is a bit weird. It looks like our site is now owned by O2 !
An O2 branded site. I think it's great we have this tie-in with O2, but I think if
O2 want to do this, then it should be on their site, or if on our site, branded with apps.ie

I think the overall problem here is that no one is in charge of anything with XCake.
Darran did an excellent job on the site, but who owns it / controls it?

Also at the Dublin XCake meetings - there is nobody in charge of making an agenda or even
ensuring that someone who knows what's happening is there on time. The last meeting was quite
disorganised. We can only go-with-the-flow for so long, but at some point we need to get organised
and have people take responsibility for things.
What a crock. O2 are our best buddies, please. Is Apps.ie created by someone who works for O2. And who decides what apps go up on the O2 site.
Honestly I don't see what the problem is with the O2 thing.
Do people believe it is damaging in some way?
I don't get it either. It clearly states "in association with apps.ie". There's no other O2 branding on the apps.ie site, other than the custom landing page.

I presume O2 picked the apps themselves.

Vinny.
